Ms. Ferraro's class will focus on Innovation & the Economy from WWI to present. We will use historic events in our nation's history to look for patterns and make connections between periods of historic economic flux (both prosperity and recession) as well as the economic impacts of the most influential inventions of the time.

Project 1: Students will conduct a mock-economy, representing historically appropriate careers, wages, taxes, and fees throughout each decade to model significant aspects of and changes to labor and wage laws, taxation and inflation, and the American Dream. They will keep a time traveler's journal of their experiences, incorporating major characteristics and impacts of each decade as it relates to their "life." Project 2: At the end of the trimester, students will research a historic invention and analyze its economic impacts in past, present, and predicted future. This work will come together in the form of a "World's Fair" like Rye has never seen before! |
